BASIC TOPIC
Ultrasound Measurement Module (UMM)
The goal is to design a device that can measure distances of
5-300cm by ultrasound sensors. The device can be controlled via
PC with serial interface, or from the device itself via some buttons
and LCD display. The PC is running some basic terminal program such as hyperterminal,
which is used as the user application.
The block diagram of the system is show below:
The requirements are the following:
- The serial interface works from MCU to PC. The unit sends at least the measured distance to PC.
- The serial interface works from PC to MCU. The unit can be commanded from PC to at least measure the distance.
- Ultrasound transmission (frequency and amplification) works correctly.
- Ultrasound detection (amplification and trigger level) works correctly.
- Timing and distance measurement works correctly.
- Menu buttons work correclty.
- LCD display works correctly.
These are also the basic grading points. Additional points can be received
from additional features that demonstrate utilizing different features of the MCU.
NOTE:
Connect the ultrasound receiver and transmitter to your PCB with a pin header. You will be
given a socket and wires from assistants along with your component order for connecting
the receiver and transmitter to your board (see image below).
