Optoelectronics and measurement techniques laboratory is specialized in demanding electronic applications.
The
international collaboration of Optoelectronics and Measurement Techniques
Laboratory has been strengthened a lot during the past few years. Two
FiDiPro professors are currently working in the laboratory. Under
supervision of Prof. Ghassan Jabbour (funded by Academy of Finland),
printable electronics and optics research has gained a strong foothold in
laboratory. A new FiDiPro professor in the field of biophotonics is Prof.
Valery Tuchin (funded by TEKES) who started his research activity in the OEM
laboratory on 1st of July 2011. His expertise is in the use of
optical clearing agents for tuning optical properties of biological tissue
for enhancing capabilities of optical techniques and instruments.
The Laboratory has a long history of measuring human physiological activity
with different optical modalities. In addition to development of biomedical
instrumentation, the research focus is on optical imaging and monitoring.
One of the focus areas is to study light-matter interactions of biological
tissues as well as fabrication and characterization of tissue mimicking
phantoms. A growing research topic is the use of nanoparticles in
biophotonic applications.
An actively developing area is electronic testing, where embedded testing techniques are researched. This resulted in design of short-range devices enabling wireless ubiquitous remote monitoring of different physical parameters of constructions and mechanisms. In addition, new testing methods are investigated for printed electronics materials and components. The Laboratory enjoys hosting EMC-facilities of the University of Oulu.
The variety of applications has lead to co-operation not only with other laboratories within the university, but also on a global scale. Our partners are renowned international research teams whose experts visit our Laboratory on regular basis and host our researchers.
