Already third vulnerability-focused expert meeting will be organized, this time at the University of Oulu on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. The meeting is hosted by Oulu University Secure Programming Group OUSPG, from the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, and the Finnish national Computer Emergency Response Team CERT-FI. Altogether 12 participant organizations are involved, including governmental officials, researchers and enterprises.
The meeting addresses the societal impacts and costs of the vulnerabilities, and how to prevent them. Vulnerabilities in the critical infrastructure, like the energy production information systems, would affect a large amount of end-users as operation breaks. Then again, vulnerabilities in software for consumer use cost million Euros to the manufacturers.
”Annually thousands of vulnerabilities are discovered, and majority of them have a global scale, since the same software is used almost all around the world”, describes CERT-FI expert Juhani Eronen.
“OUSPG has both nationally and globally acknowledged expert role in discovering vulnerabilities”, states Professor Juha Röning, head of the OUSPG.
