Mörri is our latest mobile platform for outdoor robotic research.

Mörri has a custom-built chassis and body with six wheels on each side. They contain differential steering. Each side is driven by a 2 kW brushless servo motor, with a custom-made motor controller. The robot can carry a large payload and pull heavy weights. The chassis of the robot is waterproof and can operate in extreme weather conditions. On the other hand, the robot is rather small and is also capable of operating indoors.
In order to operate autonomously, Mörri is equipped with several sensors. The pan-tilt head of the robot is equipped with a stereo vision system, a thermal camera, and a point laser. Furthermore, the robot is equipped with several lasers that measure the 3D surroundings of the robot.
Applications for this kind of robots are numerous. Within a short time, outdoor patrolling, transportation, delivery and environment mapping will be developed. As a "mule", the robot can transport payloads between locations. Later, by using a swarm of this kind of robots, faster execution of tasks will be provided.
Mörri took part on M-Elrob 2008 outdoor robot trial in Lager Hammelburg, Germany in summer 2008. The trip was a real success: Mörri won the "Camp Security" scenario and was ranked fourth in the "Mule" scenario!
