UbiLife project focuses on the fundamental research problems of ubiquitous computing and aims at deploying a new ubiquitous infrastructure, and developing novel, multimodal ubi applications into mobile user´s everyday life on selected problem domains, such as education in suburban areas or public and commercial services in the city centre.
In this project, ISG concentrates especially on developing new, context-aware technology. The key idea in context-awareness is to base the functionality that is offered to the user on her/his situation. The needs of the user and the set of available resources changes as the user moves and hence the system needs to continuously monitor the user´s situation and adapt its behaviour accordingly. Sensors producing sensor data and context recognition methods processing this data and producing context information are the basic prerequisites for context-awareness.
The technology developed by ISG facilitates recognizing the user´s situation, building applications that match the users´ current situation and offer easy interaction, adapting applications dynamically to the users´ situation, managing the distributed resources, and aggregating, delivering and consuming context information. Emphasis is on general solutions that work with many different devices and in many different application areas.
