Infotech Oulu Workshop on Texture Analysis in Machine Vision

An international workshop on Texture Analysis in Machine Vision will be arranged in Oulu, Finland, on June 14-15, 1999. Oulu is a world-famous high-technology city in North Finland, situated not far from the Arctic Circle.

Texture analysis is an important generic research area of machine vision. The areas of application include industrial surface inspection, biomedical image analysis, analysis of aerial or satellite images, document analysis, content-based image retrieval, and model-based image coding. Even though there are numerous potential applications, there are only a limited number of successful exploitations of texture so far.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for presenting recent research results and for discussing how to make progress in order to increase the usefulness of texture in practical applications. The program of the workshop includes invited presentations by leading experts, contributed papers describing recent progress in this field, and a panel on future research needs. The extended summaries presented in the workshop proceedings are planned to be extended to full papers and edited in a book or a special issue of a journal that will be offered to international publishers.
