Summer school 6 - 8 June 2010

Infotech Oulu Workshop 2010 on Optoelectronics Devices and Instrumentation X

Infotech Oulu Workshop 2010, tenth in series on Optoelectronic Devices and Instrumentation concentrating this time on “Optical imaging and measurements in life sciences”, will be organized in 6.6.-8.6.2010. The workshop will be lectured in English and is intended for advanced undergraduate and post-graduate students with some background in optics, optoelectronics devices and their manufacturing techniques.

The workshop is closely associated with, and funded by, the Infotech Oulu Graduate School, Graduate School of Modern Optics and Photonics (Joensuu) and GETA Graduate School. Graduate students receive tentatively 3-4 credit points by successfully passing the course.

Lecturers of the School

Prof. Chia-Liang Cheng

Department of Physics, National Dong Hwa University (Taiwan)

Nanodiamond: spectroscopy, surface functionalization and bio applications

Prof. Steven Jacques

Dermatology & Biomedical Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University (USA)

Laser-tissue interactions

Prof. Janis Spigulis

Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy & Department of Physics, University of Latvia (Latvia)

Optical technologies for skin assessment

(photoplethysmography, laser-Doppler, fluorescence, multi-spectral)

Prof. Lihong Wang

Optical Imaging Laboratory, Department of Biomedical Engineering,

Washington University in St. Louis (USA)

Photoacoustic tomography: Breaking through the optical diffusion limit

Workshop consists of approximately 19 lecture hours. A recreational social program, which also aims at promoting discussions with instructors and between participants, is an integral part of the workshop.

At the end of the workshop a final examination is arranged for graduate students, who are required to read the preparatory material delivered in advance. Financial support is available to the students of the Infotech Oulu Graduate School and Graduate School of Modern Optics and Photonics (Joensuu).
