EXAMINATION REGULATIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND INFORMATION ENGINEERING



1. One must sign up for an examination at the latest two days before the examination. Without pre-registration the exam paper may be discarded. A non-registered student may be removed from the exam hall at the beginning of the exam.

2. Bags and overcoats must be left in the front or sides of the examination room or outside the examination room. Mobile telecommunications devices must be turned off.

3. Besides the papers handed out at the examination, the student is allowed to have at hand only identification papers, writing materials and a calculator, unless stated otherwise on the exam paper. Non-Finnish speaking students may bring an appropriate dictionary which the exam invigilators will check.

4. The answering time begins when all the students have received the examination papers.

5. One can leave the examination at the earliest 30 minutes after the scheduled beginning of the examination The students arriving to the examination before that can attend the examination. The beginning time and the earliest allowed time to leave will be informed using the chalkboard or the overhead projector.

6. The answering time is 3 hours. The ending of the examination will be announced 10 minutes earlier. The ending time will be informed using the chalkboard.

7. If there is a reason to suspect misconduct, two invigilators establish the suspicion and inform the student(s) in question. Persons guilty of cheating or causing disorder can be removed from the examination room and will be punished according to the regulations set by the University of Oulu.

8. All conversation during exams is forbidden and can be considered misconduct.

9. Only a normal function calculator is allowed in the examinations. The calculator may not be programmable or capable of storing text. The calculator may not include library programs or a graphic display (there may be exceptions to this regulation, see item 3). Instructions, handbooks, etc. for calculators may not be brought into the examination room. Possession of an unapproved calculator at an exam is comparable to cheating

10. An approved calculator can be borrowed from the exam invigilators. The invigilators can inspect the calculators during the examination.

11. A student who submits answer papers writes his/her name to the check list and marks the examination he/she attended and shows an identification paper (driving license, student card, passport, identification card). If one can not prove his/her identification, the answer papers will be discarded.

12. Students’ exam papers are archived for the period of six months at the laboratory providing the course. During this time, the exam papers and the evaluation can be reviewed at the laboratory office.

These regulations take effect in the beginning of period 1, academic year 2007-2008 and replace any previous regulations.
